Dr. Flowers graduated from Stanford University with a degree in chemistry and received his M.D. degree from Cornell University School of Medicine, where he was distinctly honored as a National Medical Fellowships Scholar. He then completed an internship in general surgery and residency training in ophthalmology at the Charles R. Drew University School of Medicine, where he was honored as the Intern of the Year, and received an esteemed National Eye Institute Fellowship. Upon Completion of his residency training, Dr. Flowers completed a fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at the prestigious Estelle Doheny Eye Institute of the University of Southern California School of Medicine.

Dr. Flowers proceeded to distinguish himeself in the field of refrative surgery by authoring textbook chapters and articles, and conducting research in corneal surgical mapping and healing patterns.

Following his fellowship, Dr. Flowers received faculty appointments as Assistant Professor of Opthalmology at Charles R. Drew University and at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute. During his time in academia, Dr. Flowers continued his work in corneal refractive surgery and conducted pioneering work in the field of telemedicine. He rose to the level of Associate Professor at UCLA. Dr. Flowers specializes in LASIK and related refractive surgeries and has been honored repeatedly including being recognized as one of the nation's top eye surgeons by the Consumers' Research Council of America, and as one of San Diego's top LASIK surgeons by San Diego Magazine.
